Breckenridge
9 Points Breckenridge Locals Agree Upon
By Daniel Johnson

Condos Near the Slopes

1. When feather-like snow floats down, overnight meetings are cancelled.
“There are no friends (or meetings) on powder days”, is how the saying goes. We don't even phone to cancel as we'll see each other on the mountain.

2. The tooth fairy is Dr. Warner.
For at least the past decade our local dentist John has dressed up as the tooth fairy giving out tooth brushes to our children at the Halloween carnival. It is a fund raiser hosted by our two elementary schools and held in the recreation center. We have a strong sense of community.

3. We moved here for the winters and stay here for the summers.
Daytime temperatures in the summer average 70 – 80 degrees with nights around 50 degrees. The valleys are filled with wildflowers and wildlife, the mountains are capped with snow and the backcountry beckons.

4. We are not going back to the rat race – no way, no how – no matter what.

5. We love visitors and second home owners.
Nearly everyone here was born someplace else. Our economy depends on you. The Town even has a unique community guest service program called Friends Welcome that provides monthly recognition to outstanding service employees and a customer service business of the year award.

6. At 9324 feet golf balls soar.
In general high hitters get an extra 20% in distance with low hitters gaining closer to 10%.

7. History and the arts are a big part of our lives.
There are seventeen museums and art galleries. You'll see public art everywhere around the town. There is even a tiny old fashion movie theatre, The Speakeasy, located in the basement of the Breckenridge Colorado Mountain College campus. The historic district includes 171 unique buildings.

8. When you live here, you have friends – lots of them.
Make sure you have a well appointed guest room as you’ll need it. Not only do your "friends" and old college acquaintances come out of the woodwork; they stay for a while. A kitchenette comes in handy for your brother-in-law's cousin who visits for a weekend and stays the whole winter.

9. Anyone can be crowed Town Fool.
April Fool's Day is a huge cause for celebration each year in Breckenridge. It is spring time in the mountains, we have a fun parade and we crown the Town Fool. Prospective fools collect donations for charity ($1 = 1 vote) and the winner is crowned Town Fool. Past recipients of the honor include Ernie (our Mayor), John (the dentist) and Phil (the ice cream cart guy).
